Why the symbols were
withheld

The true Enneagram is an ancient symbol, predating human civilization.
Within it are references to certain historical events, both past and
future. At the time that Gurdjieff was introduced to it, one of the events
had not yet happened, but was about to. It did indeed take place within
his lifetime. He did not divulge the references directly, but did so
indirectly, utilizing the symbols listed in ISOTM, along with the Ramon
Lull version of the Enneagram.
Whether he knew the actual references himself is unknown.
In any case, we are left with the symbols he provided, and the statement
that his enneagram was incomplete and theoretical. The Enneagram,
popularized, and known to the public, is >NOT< the true symbol, that
Gurdjieff referred to.
In 1981 the 'Evoligram' was come accross, via investigation into closed
propulsion and the action of the laws of three and seven. The active,
passive and neutralizing forces, and the law of the octave. It was
afterward realized the symbols that compose the evoligram. That it is a
composite of all of the symbols diagrammed in ISOTM.
Further, those symbols were found to mysteriously coincide with
certain major historical events.
In each of the events, the supernatural was involved, or seemingly so.
